Vincent Kompany Reflects on Trophy Season Ahead of German Cup Final

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has said he will wait until after the German Cup final to fully assess his team’s season, while already highlighting the progress made under his leadership.

Bayern have already secured the Bundesliga title and are now aiming to complete a domestic double for the first time in six years. Their campaign also included a strong run in the Champions League, where they reached the semi-finals before narrowly losing 6-5 on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking ahead of their final league match against Cologne, Kompany praised the team’s consistency, development and overall progress throughout the season. He noted that the squad had experienced significant growth, both individually and collectively, and stressed that expectations will be even higher next year.

The Belgian coach has now guided Bayern to consecutive league titles across his two seasons in charge. This campaign has also seen the club set a new Bundesliga scoring record with 117 goals, surpassing a mark that had stood since the 1971/72 season.

Bayern still have one major target remaining: the German Cup final against VfB Stuttgart in Berlin on May 23. Sporting director Max Eberl insisted the team remains fully focused, stressing that the season is not yet complete and the opportunity for a domestic double is still alive.

Eberl added that ending a six-year wait for the cup would make the campaign even more special, particularly alongside their dominant league performance.

With celebrations already planned following the league triumph, Kompany said the squad will take time to enjoy their success with fans, including traditional celebrations in Munich. However, he emphasized that the focus will quickly return to finishing the season on a high note.
