Former Beşiktaş midfielder Sinan Engin has issued a stern warning to Victor Osimhen following Galatasaray's recent stumble in the Turkish Süper Lig title race. The Nigerian striker faced significant backlash after league leaders Galatasaray suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Samsunspor on Saturday, May 2. This result prevented the Istanbul giants from securing the championship with two matches still remaining in the season.
Although Osimhen provided the assist for Yunus Akgun's opening goal in the ninth minute, his overall performance drew negative reviews. A major turning point occurred in the 63rd minute when a poor back pass from Osimhen forced goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc into a red-card offense. Guvenc was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area to prevent a goal-scoring opportunity created by the error.
Speaking on the Beyaz Futbol television channel, Engin expressed his frustration with the forward's recent on-field behavior. He stated that Osimhen is not bigger than Galatasaray and must maintain professional discipline despite his star status. Engin noted that the striker has become increasingly argumentative with referees and teammates during recent fixtures.
The pundit further criticized the lack of concentration shown by the Super Eagles star during the match at the Samsun Yeni 19 Mayis Stadium. He questioned the logic behind Osimhen’s decision to play a dangerous ball toward the center-back under pressure. Engin described the performance as careless and suggested that such complacency could hurt the team's pursuit of domestic silverware.
Osimhen has since apologized to the Galatasaray supporters for the disappointing display and urged his teammates to refocus. Despite the loss, the striker has been in remarkable form with goal involvements in eleven consecutive league games. Galatasaray currently holds a four-point lead over rivals Fenerbahce at the top of the standings.
The Lions now prepare for their next home fixture where a victory would officially confirm them as Süper Lig champions. Manager Okan Buruk will be looking for a more disciplined performance from his front line to avoid another setback. Fans expect Osimhen to respond to the criticism with a decisive performance in the final matches of the campaign.
