Victor Osimhen Scores Twice as Galatasaray Beat Fenerbahçe in Istanbul Derby

Posted : 28 October 2026

Victor Osimhen delivered a decisive performance as Galatasaray defeated rivals Fenerbahçe 2-1 in the Istanbul derby on Monday night. The Nigerian striker scored twice at Rams Park to help the reigning Turkish champions secure three important points and maintain their position at the top of the Süper Lig standings.

The encounter brought together two of Turkish football's biggest clubs, with both sides seeking victory and local bragging rights. Galatasaray entered the match looking to extend their strong start to the season, while Fenerbahçe hoped to claim a significant away win against their fierce rivals.

Galatasaray made an early attempt to break the deadlock when Barış Alper Yılmaz forced a save from Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Ederson. The home side continued to press, and Osimhen eventually opened the scoring in the 29th minute.

Yılmaz supplied the pass inside the penalty area, allowing Osimhen to fire a powerful left-footed shot into the bottom corner. The finish gave Galatasaray the lead and sent the home supporters into celebration.

The Nigerian forward nearly added another goal 10 minutes later, but Ederson reacted well to stop his volley. Osimhen was not denied for long, however, as he scored his second goal just before half-time with a header to give Galatasaray a two-goal advantage.

The brace underlined Osimhen's importance to Galatasaray's attack. His movement, finishing and ability to create problems for the opposition defence proved central to the hosts' performance in one of the season's most anticipated fixtures.

Galatasaray continued to search for another goal after the restart. Ismail Jakobs came close in the 55th minute, but his header struck the near post and stayed out.

Fenerbahçe responded after the hour mark when İrfan Can Kahveci scored with an acrobatic scissors kick. The goal reduced the deficit to 2-1 and gave the visitors renewed hope of salvaging a result.

Despite the late pressure, Galatasaray held on to secure the derby victory. The result kept the defending champions top of the Süper Lig table with 22 points from nine matches, according to the match report.

Osimhen's two goals also took him to eight league goals, placing him level with fellow Nigerian striker Gift Orban at the top of the scoring chart. The performance further strengthened the Nigerian forward's standing as a key figure in Galatasaray's title challenge.

The victory gives Galatasaray an important boost in the rivalry and keeps their domestic campaign on track as they continue their pursuit of another league title.
