AFCON 2025: Osimhen Backs Eagles to Rise When It Matters Most

As the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) enters its decisive phase, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen believes Nigeria is perfectly positioned to rise above scrutiny and assert themselves as serious title contenders.

Questions have followed the team into the knockout rounds after a series of uneven performances, with critics casting doubt on their ability to go all the way. But Osimhen insists the squad remains calm, focused, and confident in its strengths, according to BSNSports.com.ng.

Rather than being distracted by outside noise, the Napoli-born striker says Nigeria is drawing motivation from the challenges ahead, convinced that the quality within the team can match — and surpass — any remaining opponent in the tournament.

“I see Nigeria as one of the strongest teams here,” Osimhen declared.
“At this stage, it’s about who wants it more. We have players who can make the difference against any team.”

The Galatasaray forward stressed that the Super Eagles’ blend of experience, attacking firepower, and tactical depth gives them a competitive edge as the margins grow finer in the knockout rounds.

“If a team is good enough, they can compete,” he added.
“But if not, we have what it takes to outperform any side, big or small.”
