Victor Boniface Returns to Werder Bremen Training After Three-Month Injury Layoff

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has handed Werder Bremen a significant boost by returning to team training on Monday. The striker had been sidelined for the past three months due to a persistent knee injury. His recovery marks a positive turn in what has been a challenging loan spell away from Bayer Leverkusen.

Boniface moved to Bremen on a season-long loan last summer but saw his progress halted after just 11 appearances. He has not featured for the club since December. The injury was severe enough to require surgery in January: which initially led medical staff to believe his season was over.

The 25-year-old was forced to watch from the sidelines as Nigeria competed in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles secured a third-place finish in Morocco without their powerful forward. Boniface remained focused on his rehabilitation: moving from individual drills in February to full team sessions this week.

"I am really happy to be back," Boniface told club media following his return to the pitch. He noted that he is looking forward to helping the team achieve its goals before the campaign ends. His presence provides a tactical lift for a side currently struggling for consistent goals in the top flight.

Werder Bremen currently occupies 14th place in the Bundesliga standings. They sit seven points clear of the automatic relegation zone with only seven matches remaining in the season. The technical crew plans to ease the Nigerian back into match action to avoid any further setbacks.

Die Werderaner have missed Boniface’s physical presence and hold-up play during his 14-game absence. While he failed to find the net before his injury: his return offers a fresh option for the final relegation scrap. The club hopes his fitness levels will allow for a competitive appearance in the coming weeks.

Management remains cautious about his workload despite the player's enthusiasm to contribute immediately. The medical team will monitor his reaction to high-intensity sessions throughout the week. If he remains pain-free: a spot on the bench for the upcoming fixture is a distinct possibility.
