Uganda’s national team, the Cranes, played out a 2-2 draw with Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces in Rabat over the weekend, marking one of their preparatory matches ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
The friendly provided the squad with valuable match practice and an opportunity to assess their readiness for the continental competition.
The Cranes are set to face Gabon in another warm-up game on Wednesday as they fine-tune their strategies ahead of their Group C opener against Tunisia on December 23 in Rabat.
The team has already spent a week in Casablanca acclimatising and preparing for the tournament.
Veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango, recalled from Mamelodi Sundowns, leads the squad and brings experience to the team.
Belgian coach Paul Put expressed his satisfaction with the team’s effort, emphasizing the importance of showcasing their hard work on a global stage.
“They can show themselves to the whole world and maybe change their lives. It would be nice to perform very well because they deserve it,” Put stated.
He also commented on the match against Morocco’s club side, noting, “We played with courage and mentality. There were positives from the first half as we created chances. I was not happy with the second-half ball situation, but we shall improve in the next few days.”
The Cranes remain focused on delivering a strong performance in AFCON, aiming to translate their preparation into success once the tournament kicks off.
