Nigeria’s Flamingos will seek to lay down an early marker at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup when they face Poland in their opening Group B encounter on Saturday.
The match is scheduled for October 17 at Pitch 4 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, with Nigeria targeting three points to boost their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
The Flamingos head into the competition determined to improve on their Round of 16 exit at the previous edition, where they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Italy.
Nigeria secured their place at the tournament after overcoming Guinea and Benin Republic in a demanding qualifying campaign, during which they also demonstrated their attacking potential.
Their opening fixture against Poland presents an opportunity to translate that qualifying form into a strong performance on the global stage.
Poland return to the competition after missing the 2025 edition. Their last appearance was in 2024 in the Dominican Republic, where they reached the quarter-finals before losing to eventual champions Korea DPR.
Saturday’s encounter will be the first meeting between both countries at the U-17 women’s level, adding another dimension to the contest.
Nigeria will compete in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico, and defending champions Korea DPR, making a positive opening result particularly important in their quest for qualification.
The Flamingos, bronze-medallists in 2022, will be aiming to build momentum from the outset as they pursue a deeper run in Morocco and seek to re-establish themselves among the tournament’s leading contenders.
