Tunisia head coach Sabri Lamouchi has officially announced his final 26-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. The roster features significant changes from the group that featured at the recent Africa Cup of Nations. Lamouchi has deliberately sidelined several veteran figures to introduce a fresh, hungry wave of talent.
The Carthage Eagles are entering their seventh global tournament and their third in a consecutive sequence. However, they carry a frustrating historical record as the only African country with over five appearances never to reach the knockout stage. Lamouchi wants to transform that narrative using a defensively solid and highly disciplined tactical setup.
The North African side earned their ticket to the tournament through a historic qualification run. They secured nine victories and one draw while incredibly maintaining clean sheets across the entire campaign. This solid backline will be tested heavily in Group F against heavyweights Sweden, Japan, and the Netherlands.
A headline inclusion in the squad is Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira, who recently committed his international future to Tunisia. He will line up alongside crucial midfielder and captain Ellyes Skhiri, who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt. Creative spark will come from Burnley's Hannibal Mejbri and Copenhagen winger Elias Achouri to drive the attacking transitions.
Several prominent leaders were excluded from the list, including Ferjani Sassi and Yassine Meriah. Naim Sliti also misses out following his international retirement. Lamouchi explained that these decisions were extremely tough but necessary to prioritize the ambition of the nation over individual reputations.
The French-Tunisian manager expressed confidence in the team's balance despite acknowledging a slight lack of offensive depth. He promised absolute dedication and hard work to make the Tunisian supporters proud during the tournament. The squad firmly believes they can upset top tier teams after defeating reigning champions France at the 2022 edition.
Tunisia will initiate their Group F campaign against Sweden on June 14 at Estadio Monterrey. They will subsequently battle Japan on June 20 before concluding the opening phase against the Netherlands on June 25.
