Thomas Tuchel Criticizes England Fans for Lack of Support

Posted : 10 October 2025

England cruised to a 3-0 friendly victory over Wales at Wembley on Thursday, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka all coming inside the first 20 minutes.

The dominant performance followed a 5-0 thrashing of Serbia in a crucial World Cup qualifier last month, signaling a confident buildup as the team prepares for next year’s tournament. Despite the eye-catching display, manager Thomas Tuchel expressed frustration at the “silent” response from England supporters, claiming the players deserved more energy from the stands.

“Silent! We never got any energy back from the fans,” Tuchel told ITV. “We did very, very well in the first half and could have scored four or five, but the stadium was quiet. It was difficult to maintain momentum in the second half, but we deserved the win.”

The German coach contrasted the muted home support with the vociferous backing from around 7,000 Welsh fans, who cheered continuously despite being outclassed. Tuchel’s comments may also reflect lingering frustration after he was jeered by England supporters following a shock friendly loss to Senegal in June.

England are close to securing World Cup qualification and could confirm their place with a victory over Latvia on Tuesday, depending on other Group K results. Tuchel, who replaced Gareth Southgate, has now won six of his seven matches in charge, becoming the third England manager after Glenn Hoddle and Sven-Goran Eriksson to achieve such a record.

The coach praised his team’s adaptability and teamwork, noting that they performed excellently despite missing key players, including captain Harry Kane and midfielders Jude Bellingham, Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden.
