After a resurgence following lackluster performances earlier in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, debutants Barau FC will seek to maintain their revival when they face a troubled Bayelsa United FC on Sunday.
The Maliya Boys are set to clash with the Prosperity Boys at the Sani Abacha Stadium in a Match Day 22 encounter, aiming to consolidate their unbeaten streak from the last two games.
Following a managerial change, Barau FC has experienced a notable turnaround and currently sits 14th on the table with 25 points — the same tally as defending champions Remo Stars FC.
In contrast, Bayelsa United’s preparations have been overshadowed by misfortune. The team was involved in a road accident in Abuja while traveling to Kano to fulfill their fixture against Barau FC. Reports indicate that a tyre came off the team bus while in motion, causing panic among players and officials. Fortunately, the driver managed to regain control, preventing a more serious incident.
No lives were lost, and all members of the Bayelsa United squad are reported safe, with no serious injuries recorded.
Head-to-Head
The only previous encounter between the two sides ended in a 2–0 victory for Bayelsa United FC.
