2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 11: Tricky Northern derby between Gombe United FC against Kano Pillars, a test of strength

Posted : 02 December 2023

Less impressive two-time league winners, Kano Pillars FC, have yet to regain their composure after gaining promotion back to the elite league.

Perhaps the biggest undoing of the Sai Masu Gida boys is their overreliance on skipper and veteran striker, Rabiu Ali.

It is true that the 41-year-old Ali has gained legendary status in the club; yet, the club must come to the realization that they need fresh legs if they want to get anything out of the new season.

For the 2023/2024 season, Kano Pillars have yet to earn an away point, while the Sani Abacha Stadium is not much of a fortress to defend their integrity.

The hosts, Gombe United FC, are also a side with not many impressive starts, as they have dropped many away points, including a 0-3 home defeat at the hands of co-tenant Doma United FC at Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

Currently, Gombe United FC ranks 16th, while Kano Pillars hold the 13th position.

Since 2017, the teams of Gombe United and Kano Pillars have competed in 6 matches, among which there were 3 victories for Gombe United and 1 draw.

The teams compete in tournaments such as the Premier League:

Gombe United 1:0 Kano Pillars (03.04.2022)
Kano Pillars 3:1 Gombe United (20.03.2022)
Kano Pillars 1:1 Gombe United (21.04.2019)
Gombe United 2:0 Kano Pillars (23.01.2019)
Gombe United 1:0 Kano Pillars (13.08.2017)
Kano Pillars 2:0 Gombe United (19.03.2017)
A challenging match in Gombe.
