Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer have been recalled to the England squad by head coach Thomas Tuchel for the opening four matches of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign.
Real Madrid right-back Alexander-Arnold returns to the national team for the first time since June 2025, while Chelsea forward Palmer is back after missing England's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Liverpool's 18-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite are also included in Tuchel's 27-man squad. Lewis Hall, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also returned to international duty.
Ngumoha impressed during England's pre-World Cup preparations, while Scott was previously involved in the team's training group. Branthwaite, whose only previous England appearance came in 2024, receives his first call-up under Tuchel.
However, Phil Foden, Morgan Gibbs-White and Adam Wharton are among those left out, while World Cup squad members Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney and Noni Madueke have also not been recalled.
Tuchel said Alexander-Arnold's return gives the defender an opportunity to compete for his place after making a positive start to the season with Real Madrid.
“It's an opportunity for Trent. He had a good start to the season. He started some matches for Real Madrid and they have good results. It's a chance for him to claim what he feels is his, his place on the right side, so here we go,” Tuchel said.
England will open their Nations League campaign against Spain at Wembley on Saturday, September 26, before travelling to Prague to face Czechia three days later.
The Three Lions will then visit Croatia on October 3 before concluding the international window with a home fixture against Czechia at Wembley on October 6.
