Transfer News: Manchester United Land Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford; Leeds Sign Stach, Retegui Moves to Al-Qadsiah

Posted : 22 July 2025

Manchester United have completed the signing of forward Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford on a contract running until 2030, with an option to extend for a further year. The deal is reportedly worth £65 million, with a potential £6 million in performance-based add-ons. The 25-year-old Cameroon international was one of the Premier League’s standout performers last season, scoring 20 goals and helping Brentford secure a 10th-place finish. Only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Erling Haaland found the net more frequently.

Mbeumo, who was a consistent presence in Brentford’s lineup, starting every league match, expressed his excitement about joining the club he supported as a child. "When I heard there was an opportunity to join Manchester United, it felt like a dream come true," he said. The versatile forward, known for his pace and strength on the right wing, also praised manager Ruben Amorim and shared his determination to continue improving.

The former Troyes player leaves Brentford after six impressive seasons, during which he made 242 appearances, scored 70 goals, and provided 51 assists. United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, praised Mbeumo’s consistent productivity, calling him one of the Premier League’s most reliable attacking talents in recent years. Mbeumo is expected to join his new teammates on United’s pre-season tour of the United States, where they will face West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton between July 26 and August 3.

Elsewhere, Leeds United have bolstered their midfield with the signing of Anton Stach from Hoffenheim in a deal valued at £17 million. The 26-year-old German international has signed a four-year contract and becomes the club’s sixth signing of the summer as they prepare for their Premier League return. Stach brings height and aggression to Leeds' midfield and expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating his style—marked by duels and anticipation—suits the Premier League well. He reunites with fellow German Lukas Nmecha, with whom he won the UEFA U21 European Championship in 2021.

In the Saudi Pro League, Al-Qadsiah have completed the signing of Italian striker Mateo Retegui from Atalanta. Though financial details were not officially disclosed, Italian media report the transfer fee to be around €65 million, potentially making Retegui the most expensive Italian player ever. Retegui had a remarkable season with Atalanta, scoring 25 league goals and playing a key role in their third-place finish. Originally from Argentina, the striker represents Italy internationally and has scored six goals in 20 appearances for the Azzurri.

Atalanta issued a statement thanking Retegui for his contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors. His move comes shortly after Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang departed Al-Qadsiah, having scored 21 goals in 36 matches during his single season with the club.
