Another tragedy has hit Nigeria's football fraternity as death claimed the life of the President of the Nigeria Referees Association, Zubairu Sani, who was pronounced dead.
Zubairu reportedly passed away in the early hours of Tuesday after a protracted illness, according to an impeccable source at the Football House.
Until his death, Sani was a FIFA-badged referee and head of the national referees body.
In accordance with Islamic rites, he is scheduled to be buried later today in his home state, Bauchi State.
Further details are expected to be made available by the association.
Zubairu's death came when the nation is still mourning the death of two prominent football giants, a foremost coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, and an ex-national and U-17 national team coach, Henry Nwosu, bringing the death toll to three all in the month of March.
The loss of Zubairu Sani marks a somber period for the Nigerian football community following the recent passing of other legendary figures. His contributions as a FIFA-badged official and leader of the referees association remain a significant part of his legacy. The sports fraternity now awaits further details while preparing for his final rites in Bauchi.
