Tottenham Urged to Use Rival Taunts as Relegation Motivation

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has challenged his squad to channel criticism and rival mockery into motivation as the club battles to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Tottenham sit just two points above the relegation zone with only two matches remaining in the season. Spurs need at least two more points to guarantee survival, although a single point could prove enough due to their superior goal difference over West Ham United, who occupy the final relegation place.

The North London club, last relegated from the English top flight in 1977, face a crucial test against local rivals Chelsea on Tuesday. De Zerbi acknowledged his players are likely to face hostile chants from opposition supporters following Tottenham’s difficult campaign.

Speaking ahead of the derby, the Italian coach said the negativity surrounding the club should serve as extra fuel for his team. He stressed that rivalry is part of football and urged his players to embrace the pressure rather than fear it.

De Zerbi also highlighted the importance of pride in Tottenham’s survival battle, saying everyone connected to the club — from players to fans and staff — should feel motivated by the criticism directed at them this season.

Tottenham will close their league campaign with a home fixture against Everton on Sunday, while West Ham have only one game remaining, against Leeds United.
