Torino came from behind to beat Fiorentina 2-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday, earning their first Serie A victory of the season. The result also extended Fiorentina's difficult start, with the Florence club losing all three of their opening league matches.
Fiorentina took the lead two minutes after halftime through Mateo Pellegrino. The forward's long-range effort appeared to be a routine save for Torino goalkeeper Lucas Perri, but the ball slipped through his hands and found the net.
Torino gradually took control after falling behind. The visitors enjoyed 61 percent possession and created several opportunities as they looked for a response.
Their equaliser arrived in the 74th minute through Rolando Mandragora. The midfielder, who had joined Torino from Fiorentina only four days earlier, produced a powerful strike from outside the area to level the contest against his former club.
Torino completed the comeback eight minutes later. Che Adams reacted quickly to a cross inside the penalty area and produced a close-range finish to put the visitors ahead in the 82nd minute.
The victory was Torino's first under new head coach Ignazio Abate. Perri recovered from his early mistake with several important saves, helping his team protect the lead during the closing stages.
Fiorentina were unable to respond despite producing more expected goals and six shots on target. Torino's defensive resilience allowed them to hold on for three points after falling behind at the start of the second half.
The defeat leaves Fiorentina bottom of Serie A with no points from their opening three matches. They have scored just one goal while conceding eight, underlining the scale of the early problems facing Fabio Grosso's new-look side.
Fiorentina underwent significant changes during the summer after finishing 15th last season. The club brought in 13 new players and appointed Grosso, but the early results have increased pressure on the new coach.
Torino move onto three points after three matches. The comeback provides Abate with his first league victory and gives his team a much-needed boost after two defeats to begin the campaign.
