Nigerian football is set for a major transformation following a landmark ₦40 billion investment from Toptier Sports Management. The decade-long commitment aims to elevate the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) and the Nigeria National League (NNL), creating a sustainable and professional framework for domestic football.
Chichi Nwoko, Founder of Toptier Sports Management, emphasized the vision behind the investment: “This is a long-term investment in structure, people, and possibilities. If Nigerian football is to compete internationally, it must be deliberately built, properly funded, and professionally managed. This ₦40 billion commitment embodies that vision.”
Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), described the initiative as a game-changer for Nigerian sports. “This investment is a strong vote of confidence in ongoing reforms. We are committed to fostering an environment where credible private investors can collaborate with government to build sustainable leagues, protect athlete welfare, and grow the sports economy,” he said.
Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), welcomed the partnership, noting its impact on domestic football. “This collaboration strengthens our football ecosystem, improves player welfare, enhances club operations, and creates clear development pathways, particularly for women and emerging talents. This is how we build a future-ready Nigerian football system.”
The ₦40 billion funding will drive league commercialization, club development, grassroots programs, and player welfare initiatives. League officials have hailed the investment as a turning point, moving Nigerian football from short-term funding cycles toward sustainable, long-term institutional growth.
Chichi Nwoko further expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “We sincerely thank the NSC Director General and the NFF President for their leadership, guidance, and belief in a private-sector-led future for Nigerian sports. Together, we can elevate Nigerian football to international standards.”
