Tinubu’s Reward to Super Falcons Will Inspire Nigerian Girl-Child – NFF President Gusau

Posted : 29 July 2025

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has described the generous rewards from the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), to the Super Falcons as a powerful motivation for the Nigerian girl-child to seek greatness through legitimate pathways.

President Tinubu, during a reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for the Super Falcons—on their return from Morocco where they clinched their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title—announced national awards and financial rewards for the team.

Each of the 24 players received the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), a three-bedroom apartment, and a cash gift of $100,000. Similarly, the 11-person technical and administrative crew were awarded national honours, three-bedroom apartments, and $50,000 each.

“I am overjoyed because Mr. President has done what no leader before him had done. This is a magnificent day for women’s football and, indeed, football generally,” Gusau said.

“This action of Mr. President will serve as a fillip to draw out the girl-child in our country to seek greatness through legitimate ways. Football has always been the greatest unifier among our people across different physical, mental, and economic divides.”

Gusau added that the President’s gesture reinforces the message that Nigerian girls can achieve greatness through sports or any other noble profession.

In addition to the presidential gifts, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum awarded each player and crew member the sum of ₦10 million. Further goodwill came from six Super Eagles players—William Troost-Ekong, Olaoluwa Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo—who contributed ₦1 million each to the 24-member squad.
