International premium brand Tiger Beer has announced the launch of the Tiger Street Football Tournament in Nigeria, scheduled to run from October 11 to October 25, as part of efforts to promote grassroots football.
Portfolio Manager, Premium Brands, Maria Shadeko, revealed the initiative on Wednesday in Lagos, noting that the competition will kick off in Awka, Anambra State, and feature non-professional players drawn from across the country.
The five-a-side knockout-format tournament will allow students, hustlers, and hidden talents to form teams of eight, beginning from the round of 16.
According to Shadeko, the winning team will receive ₦5 million, the runner-up ₦3 million, while the third and fourth-placed teams will each earn ₦1 million. Each host city will run its own competition, climaxing in a one-day finale of semi-finals and finals.
Beyond football, the tournament will showcase halftime parties, live performances, and cultural experiences, designed to reflect the rhythm, creativity, and resilience of the streets.
“Tiger Street Football is not just about football — it is about the people. It’s about recognising talent, celebrating community, and giving Nigerians a platform to shine where football feels most alive — in the streets,” Shadeko said.
The organisers added that the initiative is inspired by Nigeria’s rich street football culture, which has produced legendary stars such as Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, and Victor Osimhen, while also celebrating the fearless energy of Nigerian youth.
