Temple Shines as Rivers United Rally Past Cynosure FC in Pre-Season Test

Rivers United came from a goal down to defeat Cynosure FC 2-1 in a pre-season friendly on Thursday at the Garden City Sports Centre, Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The Pride of Rivers dominated possession and dictated the tempo throughout the opening half but were unable to convert their superiority into goals, as both teams went into the interval deadlocked at 0-0.

Cynosure FC took a surprise lead in the 66th minute when Chinedu Ani unleashed a powerful long-range effort that beat the Rivers United goalkeeper.

The Nigeria Premier Football League side responded swiftly, drawing level just three minutes later through Chijioke Mbaoma, who finished from close range after a well-delivered assist from ThankGod Temple.

Temple then completed an outstanding individual performance in the 81st minute, calmly lifting the ball over the advancing Cynosure goalkeeper to hand Rivers United a deserved comeback victory.

The friendly served as another useful exercise for Rivers United as they continue preparations for the 2026/27 season, while Cynosure FC used the encounter to sharpen their readiness for the Nationwide League One (NLO) promotion playoffs to the Nigeria National League (NNL) in Aba, Abia State.

Rivers United will continue their pre-season programme on Saturday, July 25, when they host Wilbros FC in another friendly at the Garden City Sports Centre, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 a.m.

The victory provides another confidence boost for Rivers United as they continue to fine-tune their squad ahead of the new campaign. The club will look to maintain its positive momentum when it faces Wilbros FC in its next pre-season fixture.
