Manchester United's 2-1 pre-season victory over Atletico Madrid provided supporters with an early glimpse of highly rated academy prospect JJ Gabriel, who made his senior debut during the closing stages of the match. Despite featuring for only the final few minutes, the teenager handled the step up to first-team football with composure against experienced opposition.

Gabriel's introduction was met with the physical challenge expected at senior level, as Atletico defender Jose Maria Gimenez quickly tested him with a robust tackle. The youngster recovered immediately and continued confidently, later finding more room to operate after switching from a central attacking role to the right flank.

Yoro, who made his own senior debut as a 16-year-old at Lille, praised Gabriel's attitude and potential after the match.

"He's a really good player. He's still very young and has a lot to learn, but he's humble and works hard. I'm happy he got his first minutes, and I hope he continues to progress," Yoro said.

The match also marked the return of Amad Diallo following his involvement with Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Expectations remain high for the winger after an encouraging international campaign in which he scored twice, adding to the three goals he netted during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Against Atletico, Amad demonstrated his work rate and defensive commitment, frequently tracking back to regain possession. However, one misplaced backheel contributed to the sequence that eventually led to Atletico's opening goal after a set-piece.

Going forward, the 24-year-old remained a threat. He forced Jan Oblak into a save from a deflected free-kick, showed excellent close control inside the penalty area, and helped initiate several attacking moves with his intelligent passing and relentless pressing. His energy also played a key role in the build-up to one of United's best attacking opportunities of the game.

While Amad's first outing of pre-season offered encouraging signs, he will be aiming to deliver greater consistency as Manchester United continue preparations for the new campaign.
