Government Secondary School, Numan, and Government Girls Secondary School, Yola, Adamawa State, have emerged as winners of the Savannah Conference Nestlé Milo Basketball Championship in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.
The final, which was played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Sani Abacha Sports Complex, Kofar Mata, attracted a large number of spectators who came to cheer their favorite teams.
The seven-day tournament was organized by the Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF) with the support of the Nestlé Milo company to develop the game at the grassroots level, especially in secondary schools across the country.
The Adamawa teams defeated the highly rated Ahmadiyya College boys and girls in a thrilling and energy-sapping encounter.
The Ahmadiyya College boys lost by 45–71 points, while the Ahmadiyya girls also conceded defeat, 33–75, in the finals.
With this victory, the Adamawa teams — both boys and girls — will represent the Savannah Conference in the final stage of the tournament, scheduled to take place in Lagos later in the year.

Prizes, gifts, certificates, cash, trophies, and individual awards were presented to the deserving schools. Dignitaries who graced the finals included Nestlé Milo’s Category Development Manager, Funmilola Abiola Oyewole.
Others in attendance were the Acting Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Ibrahim Umar Fagge (FIFA); the President of FIBA Zone 3, Colonel Samuel Amedu; and the Secretary-General of the Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF), Oba Funso Usman, among others.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Nestlé Milo’s Category Development Manager, Funmilola Abiola Oyewole, pledged that the company would continue to complement government efforts, particularly in sustaining the championship at the secondary school level, in order to motivate and encourage students to excel in both academic and sporting activities.
Funmilola Abiola Oyewole, speaking through Mr. Charles Ikpe, noted that the initiative has significantly contributed to the development of basketball in Nigeria, producing national and international stars.
The Central Conference is scheduled to take place from May 10th to 17th in Abuja. The Atlantic Conference will hold from May 20th to 27th, while the Western Conference is set for May 28th to June 4th in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Grand Final will be held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, later in the year.
