Supremacy Cup: Organisers Tighten Discipline Ahead of 21st Edition

Posted : 06 November 2026

Organisers of the Supremacy Cup have introduced strict matchday regulations aimed at promoting discipline, punctuality and fair play ahead of the competition's 21st edition in Lagos.

The four-day grassroots tournament is scheduled to run from Nov. 9 to Nov. 12 at the Legacy Pitch, with eight teams expected to compete for honours under an 11-point regulatory framework.

Under the new guidelines, participating teams must arrive at least one hour before their scheduled kick-off, with late arrivals attracting reduced playing time to prevent disruption of subsequent fixtures.

Matches will consist of two 30-minute halves without a half-time break, as teams will only change ends before the restart.

The regulations also permit unlimited substitutions, allowing withdrawn players to return to the game, provided they retain their original jersey numbers throughout the encounter.

In a further move to enforce discipline, the organisers have prohibited theatrical displays and deliberate time-wasting by players.

Teams are also required to conclude their prayers before entering the pitch and vacate the playing area immediately after the final whistle.

The organisers warned that violence, match disruptions and disrespect towards match officials would not be tolerated, insisting that all participating teams must accept and respect officiating decisions.

The eight contestants have been divided into two groups, setting up an interesting contest among established grassroots sides and selected teams.

Group A comprises 36 Lion FC, Beyond Limits FA, Edo Selected and Atlantic Selected, while Group B features Ikorodu City FC, Bariga Stars, Badagry Selected and Collin Edwin.

The tournament is expected to attract football enthusiasts and talent scouts seeking to identify promising young players, with the organisers hoping the revised regulations will ensure an orderly and competitive championship.

With preparations gathering momentum, attention will now shift to Legacy Pitch on Nov. 9, when the eight teams begin their quest for the 21st Supremacy Cup title.
