Super Falcons Welcome 11 New Players Ahead of Comoros Olympic Qualifier

Posted : 12 October 2026

Nigeria's senior women's national team, the Super Falcons, have welcomed 11 newly invited players into camp as preparations continue for the second leg of their African qualifying tie for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The newcomers joined the squad following Nigeria's 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg at Remo Stars Stadium in Ogun State on Friday, October 9. The result gave the nine-time African champions an advantage ahead of Tuesday's return fixture.

According to a message from the team's media officer to journalists, the 11 players featured in a video expressing their excitement after receiving their maiden invitations. They also pledged to contribute positively to the squad and demonstrate their abilities at international level.

The invitations provide an opportunity for the technical crew to assess additional talent from Nigeria's domestic women's league and clubs abroad. They also introduce fresh competition for places as the Super Falcons pursue Olympic qualification.

Eleven players receive maiden invitations

The newly invited players represent clubs in Nigeria, England, Turkey, Portugal and Belarus. The list includes:

  • Favour Omenazu: Midfielder, MK Dons, England

  • Tumininu Adeshina: Defender, Edo Queens

  • Sandra John: Defender, Rivers Queens

  • Valentina Uroko: Defender, Edo Queens

  • Joy Igbokwe: Midfielder, Nasarawa Amazons

  • Farida Abdulwahab: Defender, Nasarawa Amazons

  • Blessing Okpe: Forward, Dnepr Mogilev, Belarus

The selection highlights the range of talent available to Nigerian women's football. Players from established domestic clubs feature alongside those gaining experience in European competitions.

Their arrival also creates an opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate their readiness for the demands of senior international football. The players will be expected to adapt quickly to the team's tactical requirements and training routines.

Super Falcons target Olympic qualification

Attention now turns to Tuesday's second leg against Comoros. Nigeria will aim to protect its two-goal advantage and secure progression in the African qualifying campaign for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The Super Falcons remain one of Africa's most successful women's national teams, having won the Women's Africa Cup of Nations nine times. Their experience provides an important foundation, although the team must maintain concentration to avoid complications in the return fixture.

The introduction of 11 new players could also strengthen competition within the squad as the campaign progresses. For the newcomers, the invitations represent a significant career milestone and an opportunity to establish themselves within the national team setup.

A successful qualifying campaign would give Nigeria another opportunity to represent Africa at the Olympic Games, while the new arrivals will hope to make lasting contributions to the team's ambitions.
