Super Falcons Target Record 11th WAFCON Title as Madugu Unveils 25-Player Squad

Nigeria's Head Coach, Justine Madugu, has unveiled a 25-player Super Falcons squad for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as the reigning champions prepare to defend their continental title in Morocco.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade will lead a star-studded squad that includes Africa's top goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, veteran defender Osinachi Ohale, midfielders Jennifer Echegini and Toni Payne, and six-time African Women's Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala.

The squad also features experienced players Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin, Christy Ucheibe, Halimatu Ayinde, Deborah Abiodun, Esther Okoronkwo, Francisca Ordega, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Omorinsola Babajide, alongside home-based goalkeeper Fatima Oloko.

Nigeria, winners of a record 10 WAFCON titles, have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi. All of their group-stage matches will be played in Rabat.

The tournament, scheduled to run from July 26 to August 16, will feature 16 teams for the first time, with the four semi-finalists qualifying automatically for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

The fifth-placed team will also have another opportunity to qualify for the global showpiece through the intercontinental play-offs.

The Super Falcons secured their 10th continental title after a dramatic 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in last year's final and will now be aiming to extend their dominance by winning an unprecedented 11th African crown.
