Super Falcons Star Flourish Sabastine Completes Benfica Move from Fenerbahçe

Posted : 04 August 2026

Portuguese women's champions Benfica have completed the signing of Super Falcons forward Flourish Sabastine from Turkish Women's Super League champions Fenerbahçe. The Portuguese club confirmed the arrival of the Nigerian international on Monday, with the attacker signing a contract that will keep her at the club until 2029. The agreement also includes an option to extend her stay by an additional year.

The move marks another important step in the career of the 21-year-old, who continues her rise in European football after successful spells in France and Turkey. Sabastine leaves Fenerbahçe after helping the Istanbul club win the Turkish Women's Super League title during the 2025-26 campaign.

Before finalising the transfer, Sabastine sought advice from fellow Super Falcons player Christy Ucheibe, who previously enjoyed a successful spell with Benfica. Ucheibe's experience at the Portuguese club reportedly played a major role in convincing the winger that Benfica was the right destination for the next stage of her career.

Known for her versatility, Sabastine is capable of playing on either wing and has built a reputation for her explosive pace, close control and ability to score important goals. Benfica believe those qualities will strengthen their attacking options as they prepare to defend their Campeonato Nacional Feminino title and compete in European competitions.

Sabastine began her senior career with Bayelsa Queens, where she won three domestic trophies and established herself as one of Nigeria's brightest young talents. Her performances earned her a move to Europe, with spells at French side Stade de Reims before joining Turkish giants Galatasaray. She later switched to rivals Fenerbahçe, where she added a league title to her growing list of honours.

The forward has also enjoyed an impressive international career with Nigeria. She represented the Falconets at the 2022 and 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cups and produced one of the standout moments of the 2022 tournament by scoring the winning goal against France in the group stage.

Her consistent performances at youth level earned her promotion to the senior national team. Sabastine made her Super Falcons debut in October 2022 during an international friendly against Japan and has since become one of the country's promising attacking options.

The transfer gives Benfica another talented Nigerian player as the club continues to strengthen its squad. For Sabastine, the move offers the opportunity to compete for more domestic silverware and establish herself among Europe's top women's footballers while continuing her development at one of Portugal's biggest clubs.
