WAFCON 2024: Falcons' Captain Ajibade Slams CAF Over Poor Player Accommodation

Posted : 04 July 2025

As the Super Falcons chase their 10th title at the 13th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, the team's captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has criticised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over alleged poor accommodation for players.

Ajibade, on her Instagram page, shared a photo of a room with the caption: “Two professional women players in this kitchen-sized room at a prestigious tournament.”

The Super Falcons will begin their campaign in the tournament on Saturday against Tunisia in a Group B encounter at Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, before facing Algeria and Botswana.

The coach of the team, Justin Madugu, said his team was the one to beat.

“We are currently rated as number one in Africa,” Madugu said.

“Aside from that, we have won this tournament several times, and we are mindful of the aspirations and expectations.”

Yet, almost half of the players from the 2022 squad are not involved this time, including former captain Desire Oparanozie, and Madugu admits his squad is a “work in progress.”

Nigeria is hoping for a 10th title in the event, which is scheduled to take place between July 5 and July 26.
