Super Falcons Camp Nears Full Strength as Ijamilusi Joins Ahead of WAFCON Defence

The Super Falcons' camp in Casablanca has moved closer to full capacity after forward Folashade Ijamilusi arrived on Tuesday ahead of Nigeria's title defence at the 14th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Ijamilusi, who plays for Chinese side Liaoning Shenyang Shenbei Hefeng, checked into the team's base at the Hotel Marriott shortly before 3 p.m., bringing the number of players in camp to 23.

The former Nigeria youth international was one of the standout performers at the previous edition of the tournament, scoring twice, including the equaliser in the Super Falcons' dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final.

However, the arrival of midfielder Deborah Abiodun and forward Gift Monday has been delayed after their scheduled flight from the United States was cancelled because of technical issues.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), both players had already arrived at the airport before learning that their flight had been cancelled, prompting the federation to secure fresh tickets for their journey to Morocco.

The 10-time African champions have continued preparations at the La Noria Club in Casablanca as they fine-tune strategies for the continental showpiece.

The team is expected to depart for Rabat, where they will play their Group C fixtures against Malawi, Egypt, and Zambia.

The mandatory team arrival meeting with officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Local Organising Committee is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, while the Super Falcons will begin their campaign against Malawi next Tuesday.

With only two players still expected to arrive, Nigeria's preparations are nearing completion as the defending champions look to begin their WAFCON title defence on a strong note and build momentum for another successful continental campaign.
