Super Falcons Camp Grows to 19 Ahead of WAFCON Opener Against Malawi

Nigeria's preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) continued to gather momentum on Sunday as the Super Falcons' training camp in Casablanca, Morocco, increased to 19 players.

Head coach Justine Madugu supervised another intensive training session at the La Noria Club as the reigning African champions stepped up their build-up to the tournament. The technical crew focused on improving fitness, tactical organisation and team chemistry ahead of Nigeria's opening Group B fixture against Malawi on July 28.

The latest arrivals included BK Häcken duo Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa, strengthening the squad as preparations entered the final phase. Pachuca Tuzas pair Osinachi Ohale and Chinwendu Ihezuo were also expected to link up with the team in Morocco.

Nineteen of the 25 invited players are now in camp, giving the coaching staff a stronger group to work with as they fine-tune plans for the continental championship.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade is among the senior players already in camp alongside first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Defenders Shukurat Oladipo and Oluwatosin Demehin have also joined preparations, while midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini continue to train with the squad.

The attacking unit has also received a major boost with experienced forwards Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Omorinsola Babajide already taking part in training sessions. Their experience is expected to play an important role as Nigeria pursues another continental title.

Six invited players are still expected to report to camp. They include defender Michelle Alozie, midfielder Deborah Abiodun, and forwards Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and Uchenna Kanu.

The coaching staff remains confident that the remaining players will arrive in time to complete preparations before the team's opening match. With nearly the full squad now available, attention has shifted towards tactical drills and building match sharpness ahead of the tournament.

Nigeria enters the competition as the defending champions and one of the favourites to lift the trophy once again. The Super Falcons will be aiming to make a strong start when they face Malawi on July 28 before continuing their Group B campaign against the other teams in the race for a place in the knockout stage.
