Super Falcons Camp Swells as Oshoala, Omewa, Seven Others Arrive for 2026 Women’s AFCON Qualifiers

Posted : 22 October 2025

Asisat Oshoala, Joy Omewa, and several key players have joined the Super Falcons’ training camp in Lomé, Togo, ahead of their 2026 Women’s AFCON clash.

Champions Nigeria have commenced training in the Togolese capital, Lomé, ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final qualifying fixture — the first leg against Benin Republic, scheduled for Friday.

Six-time African Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala was among the first arrivals at the Falcons’ Lomé camp, alongside new invitee Joy Omewa, Turkey-based defender Tosin Demehin, China-based forward Folashade Ijamilusi, and the home-based quintet — goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, defenders Blessing Ilivieda and Miracle Usani, midfielder Taiwo Afolabi, and forward Kafayat Mafisere.

Head Coach Justine Madugu confirmed that training sessions began on Monday afternoon, as the team prepares to face the Benin senior women’s team at the 25,000-capacity Stade de Kégué in Lomé on Friday.

The two West African neighbours will battle in the final qualifying round for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Morocco, which also serves as Africa’s qualification tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The first leg kicks off at 3:00 p.m. Togo time (4:00 p.m. Nigeria time).

The return leg is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Gambian referee Ngum Fatou to officiate Friday’s match, assisted by Mariem Chedad and Hamedine Houleye from Mauritania, with Isatou Touray (Gambia) as the fourth official. Halimatou Hamidou from Niger Republic will serve as the match commissioner, while Martha Nyekanyeka from Malawi will act as the referee assessor.
