Super Eagles striker, with 27 goal involvements in 48 games, advised to become more aggressive

Posted : 22 April 2024

Rangers FC coach Philippe Clement has advised Cyriel Kolawole Dessers to display more ruthlessness in front of the net to further enhance his striking abilities.

Dessers emerged as the hero for the Glasgow giants, scoring both goals in a 2-0 triumph over Hearts in the FA Cup semifinals.

The Nigerian international showcased his striking prowess by finding the back of the net in each half, setting up an eagerly anticipated final clash with Celtic on May 25th.

Dessers' brace against Hearts brings his goal contribution in his debut season with Rangers to 27 goals – 19 goals and eight assists – in 48 appearances across all competitions, an impressive record for his first season in Glasgow.

Despite his remarkable achievements, Dessers has faced criticism for missing some scoring chances and delivering average performances in crucial matches.

Nonetheless, Gers manager Clement is pleased with Dessers' overall contribution but believes the Super Eagles striker needs to display more killer instinct on the field.

Clement expressed his thoughts in an interview with Premier Sports, stating that Dessers is too gentle both on and off the pitch and needs to develop a more ruthless approach to his game.

He acknowledged Dessers' progress over the past six months and believes this period represents the best phase of his career.

In the previous season, Dessers managed ten goals and three assists in 32 games, while in the preceding year, he impressed with 21 goals and six assists in 47 matches, finishing as the top scorer in the inaugural Europa Conference League with ten goals.
