Super Eagles Set for High-Profile Friendlies Against Poland and Portugal Ahead of Summer Window

Posted : 02 April 2026

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced two major international friendly matches for the Super Eagles scheduled for June 2026. Nigeria will first travel to Warsaw to face Poland before taking on a star-studded Portugal side. These fixtures are designed to test the squad following their recent training camp in Antalya, Turkey.

The first match against Poland is set for June 3 at the PGE National Stadium. This encounter will be only the second time both nations have met at the senior international level. Nigeria won the previous meeting 1-0 in 2018 through a Victor Moses penalty. Poland’s captain Piotr Zieliński is expected to lead his side, though veteran striker Robert Lewandowski’s participation remains uncertain.

On June 10, the Super Eagles will fly to Portugal to play the Seleção das Quinas. This match serves as the final warm-up for Portugal before they travel to North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The venue for this clash in Portugal will be announced by the NFF in the coming days.

History favors the Portuguese side, who recorded a dominant 4-0 victory over Nigeria in November 2022. During that encounter, Bruno Fernandes netted twice, while Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário added late goals. Cristiano Ronaldo missed that previous fixture but is reportedly eager to feature in this summer's renewal.

Nigeria enters these games with momentum after a productive outing in Turkey last month. They secured a 2-1 victory over Iran and played out a 2-2 draw with Jordan. Coach and management view these June dates as essential for maintaining the team's competitive edge.

The Super Eagles are also expected to participate in the Unity Cup Tournament in London late in May. This busy schedule highlights the NFF’s commitment to providing high-level opposition for the national team. Fans are particularly excited to see the likes of Victor Osimhen test themselves against Europe's elite defenders.
