Super Eagles Players Receive N20 Million Each as NFF Settles AFCON Prize Money

Posted : 17 April 2026

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially disbursed the Super Eagles' share of the prize money from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morocco. This payment fulfills a prior agreement between the federation and the national team players regarding tournament earnings. Nigeria secured a bronze medal at the competition after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the third-place play-off in Casablanca.

According to the agreed financial structure, the NFF allocated 30 percent of the total prize earnings specifically for the playing squad. The Super Eagles earned a total of $2.5 million from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for reaching the semi-final stage. This amount translates to approximately N3.36 billion based on the current exchange rates.

From this pool, each player in the squad reportedly received $15,000, which is equivalent to N20,655,000 as their individual share. Senior officials from the federation confirmed the disbursement, noting that the funds were transferred without the typical delays that have plagued past tournaments. This settlement brings an end to months of uncertainty regarding the financial rewards from the continental showpiece.

The 2025 edition of the tournament featured the highest prize pool in AFCON history, with the winners taking home a record $10 million. While Nigeria missed out on the final after a tough semi-final battle, the financial reward reflects their consistent performance throughout the tournament. The team also benefited from a separate goal-incentive scheme where the NFF paid $5,000 for every goal scored.

The focus of the three-time African champions now shifts toward their upcoming international schedule in London. The Super Eagles are expected to reconvene in late May 2026 to defend their Unity Cup title. They will open the tournament with a semi-final clash against Zimbabwe on May 26 at The Valley Stadium.

This four-nation competition also features Jamaica and India as part of the line-up. Additionally, the NFF has scheduled high-profile friendly matches against Poland and Portugal in June. These fixtures are intended to keep the team competitive despite their absence from the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
