Nigeria’s Super Eagles began their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign on a high note, edging Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in an entertaining Group C encounter in Fez on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles dominated the first half, and their pressure paid off when defender Semi Ajayi opened the scoring. Showing composure in front of goal, Ajayi converted a close-range header following sustained Nigerian attacks.
Tanzania returned after the interval with renewed determination and drew level early in the second half through Mbombwa, a strike that briefly stunned the Nigerian fans and reignited the contest.
Nigeria, however, quickly regained control. Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman proved decisive, firing home the match-winning goal minutes later to restore Nigeria’s lead and secure all three points.
The victory provides the Super Eagles with an encouraging start to their AFCON 2025 campaign, setting the tone as they aim to build momentum in the group stage.
