Super Eagles close gap on Africa’s elite in latest FIFA Rankings

Posted : 29 March 2026

Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, have taken another significant step forward in global football, climbing to 26th in the latest FIFA Rankings.

The upward movement reflects a steady run of impressive performances, with the three-time African champions now boasting 1,586.89 points. More notably, Nigeria has solidified its position as the third-best team in Africa, underlining its resurgence on the continental stage.

At the summit of African football, Morocco’s Atlas Lions continue to lead the way, sitting comfortably in 8th place worldwide with 1,753.7 points. Senegal remain close behind in second place on the continent, maintaining their status among Africa’s elite.

Nigeria’s rise places them ahead of several traditional heavyweights, reinforcing the team’s growing consistency and competitive edge. Other teams in Africa’s top 10 include Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Cameroon, DR Congo, and Mali.

The latest rankings not only highlight Nigeria’s progress but also signal a narrowing gap between the Super Eagles and the continent’s very best, offering renewed optimism ahead of future international fixtures.

This steady climb in the global standings serves as a testament to the tactical improvements and consistency within the current squad. As the team continues to bridge the gap with Morocco and Senegal, the focus remains on maintaining this momentum in upcoming continental qualifiers. The Super Eagles appear well-positioned to reclaim their status as the dominant force in African football.
