Nigeria’s home-based senior men’s team, the Super Eagles B, will aim for a morale-boosting win over hosts Zanzibar in the second of a two-match preparatory series ahead of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN), which begins on Saturday.
The first encounter between the two teams, held on Monday at the centrally located Mau Stadium in Zanzibar, ended in a goalless draw. Despite the stalemate, the 2018 CHAN silver medallists dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, only to be denied by a resilient Zanzibar defense.
Standout performers in the match included Adedayo Olamilekan, Hadi Haruna, Sikiru Alimi, and Harrison Tochukwu, while other players such as goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani, captain Nduka Junior, Leonard Ngenge, Abdulrafiu Taiwo, and Godwin Obaje also featured prominently.
The second game, also at the Mau Stadium, takes place five days before Nigeria opens its CHAN campaign against reigning champions Senegal at the Amaan Stadium, a 15,000-capacity venue in Zanzibar.
Nigeria will then face Sudan on Tuesday, 12th August, at the same venue, before wrapping up their Group D fixtures against Congo at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, 19th August.
The four-week CHAN tournament features 19 nations divided into four groups. Groups A, B, and C each contain five teams, while Group D—Nigeria's group—comprises four. Matches will also be hosted at the Moi International Sports Centre and Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, as well as the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
