2025/2026 NNL Match Day 1 Review: Sunshine Stars Suffer 0–1 Defeat to Edel FC

Sunshine Stars Head Coach, Bobola Akinfolarin, has promised a swift response to guide the team back to winning ways ahead of Match Day 2 in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

Speaking on Monday in Akure, Akinfolarin reflected on the 1–0 defeat to Edel FC at Awka City Stadium on Saturday, emphasizing that despite the loss, his team showed commitment and tactical discipline.

“Sunshine Stars do not deserve to lose based on our overall display; we are disappointed with the result, but we will regroup and plan to win our next game. We went there with a clear tactical plan, and the boys executed it well, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert our chances. It’s painful because the goal we conceded was deflected, and on the balance of play, we didn’t deserve to lose. I take full responsibility for the result, and we will immediately work on the areas that need improvement,” he said.

Akinfolarin assured fans that identified lapses would be corrected ahead of Saturday’s first home game of the season against Gateway FC. He urged supporters to remain patient and trust in the team’s process, promising a stronger performance in the upcoming match.
