Posted : 13 February 2024

The immediate past coach of the Akure-based team, Sunshine Stars, Edith Olumide Agoye, has sent his farewell message to the team following his departure.

The former coach of Shooting Stars of Ibadan appreciates the state government, the management of Sunshine Stars FC, and the entire people of Ondo State for the opportunity given to him to lead the team.

The young and vibrant tactician made this known during a chat with the media.

"Yes, I am no longer with Sunshine Stars; I am now a free agent and can join any team that is interested in my services," he declared.

"I wish to extend my profound gratitude to the State government for their immense support during my reign as the head coach of the state darling team.

"Also, my hearty appreciation goes to the former commissioner for Youth and Sports development, Honourable Bamidele Ologun, and his Special Adviser Mr. Johnson, the entire management board of Sunshine Stars; the General Manager, Prince Tunde Ogunja, General Coordinator, Mr. Tokunbo Akinyelure, Team Manager, Mr. Seun Betiku, and the Welfare Officer, Ramon Abdulsalam. The technical crew, the Supporters Team, my driver Mr. Akinsipe Babaobe, my CSO Mr. Ogunni Olufisayo, and the entire sports-loving people of Ondo State.

"I really appreciate the gesture and the opportunity given to me to serve under the noble umbrella of Sunshine Stars Football Club. I cherish every moment of my stay in Akure; thanks and God bless Ondo State.

On whether he was sacked by Sunshine Stars management, Agoye denied the insinuation, adding that it was a mutual agreement between himself and the club.

"I was never sacked by Sunshine Stars; rather, I will say we terminated the contract mutually. I think that's all I can say for now," the soft-spoken coach concluded.

Agoye qualified Sunshine Stars for the 2022/2023 NPFL Super Six in Lagos in his first season after ending the regular season in third position.

Enyimba eventually emerged as the 2022/2023 league champions, while Sunshine Stars finished the season in 4th position overall.
