Posted : 12 June 2026

The Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) has taken a major step towards revitalizing Sunshine Stars FC with the official unveiling of former Nigerian international Duke Udi as Technical Adviser and Banjo Adepoju as Head Coach ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the agency's headquarters along Oda Road in Akure, brought together key figures in Ondo State football, signaling a renewed determination to restore the club's fortunes following its relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Leading the presentation was the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, who expressed confidence in the newly appointed technical team and emphasized the importance of focus and commitment as Sunshine Stars embark on a fresh chapter.

Ogbonnaya assured the coaches of the agency's full support, stressing that the objective remains to build a competitive side capable of mounting a strong challenge in the NNL and securing a return to Nigeria's top division.

"We believe in the quality and experience you bring to the club. The agency will provide the necessary support, but success will require dedication, discipline, and total focus on the task ahead," he said.

The event attracted several stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Association, Otunba Dele Ajayi, members of the FA board, ODSFA management staff, sports journalists, supporters, and other football enthusiasts.

Responding on behalf of the technical crew, Duke Udi thanked the agency and club management for the opportunity, pledging to build a team driven by professionalism, hard work, and merit.

The former international maintained that player selection and team decisions would be based strictly on performance and commitment, adding that the technical crew is fully prepared for the challenges of the upcoming campaign.

"I appreciate the confidence shown in us. Merit will guide our decisions, and with commitment from everyone involved, we will work hard to achieve the goals set for Sunshine Stars," Udi stated.

The unveiling marks the beginning of a new era for the Akure-based club, with preparations gathering momentum ahead of the new season. Stakeholders remain hopeful that the combination of experience and fresh ideas within the technical crew will inspire a successful campaign and help restore Sunshine Stars to their place among Nigeria's leading football clubs.

The ceremony ended with goodwill messages from stakeholders, who reiterated their commitment to supporting the club's quest for a return to top-flight football.

The management, technical crew, and local community stand united in their ambition to revive the club's historic legacy. Through collective effort and structured development, the team aims to navigate the competitive second division successfully. The upcoming NNL campaign will serve as the ultimate proving ground for this newly assembled leadership squad.
