Stade Rennais Enter Transfer Race to Sign Nigerian Teenage Prodigy Zadok Yohanna From AIK

Posted : 25 May 2026

French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais have entered the race to sign highly rated Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna ahead of the summer transfer window. The 18-year-old attacker has enjoyed a sensational breakout campaign in Sweden with AIK Stockholm, where his electric performances on the right flank have captured the attention of top European scouts.

The teenage prodigy only moved to Europe last summer from Kaduna-based youth setup Ikon Allah Football Academy. He has rapidly established himself in the AIK first team, registering five goals and four assists across 12 competitive appearances this season. His technical ability, blistering acceleration, and fearlessness in one-on-one situations have drawn comparisons to former Rennes forward Jérémy Doku.

Rennes see Yohanna as an ideal developmental project with massive financial upside. The French outfit has built a strong reputation for nurturing young talent before selling them to elite clubs for substantial profits. A prime example is Doku, who was bought for €26 million in 2020 and subsequently sold to Manchester City for a staggering €60 million.

The French club faces stiff competition for the winger, with European heavyweights like RB Leipzig, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Real Madrid also keeping close tabs on his rapid progress. AIK recruitment chief Miika Takkula recently addressed the growing speculation on Swedish television, acknowledging that the club expects heavy summer bids. Takkula praised Yohanna's mentality and unique physical profile, noting that any potential sale would require a significant financial package.

Yohanna's stellar club form recently earned him a maiden international call-up to the Nigerian senior national team. Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle named the teenager to his provisional squad for the upcoming Unity Cup invitational tournament in London. However, AIK blocked the release, citing the final stages of his rehabilitation program for a recent hamstring injury that sidelined him for his club's last two matches.

With his current contract in Sweden running until December 2029, AIK hold maximum leverage in upcoming negotiations. Observers believe Rennes offers the teenager a perfect stepping stone to develop without the immediate pressure of an elite heavyweight club.
