Sporting Lagos have booked their place in the final of the 13th edition of the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament after a commanding 1-0 victory over former champions Lobi Stars of Makurdi.
The highly anticipated semi-final clash tested both sides’ tactical discipline and attacking depth, as they battled intensely for control and the opening goal. The first half ended goalless, with neither team creating a clear-cut scoring chance, though the match remained entertaining and kept fans fully engaged.
The second half continued at a high tempo, but it was the tactical brilliance of Coach Jeffrey Buter that made the difference for Sporting Lagos. His decision to introduce Shola Oladunjoiye and Ibrahim Abdulganniyu in the 70th minute changed the course of the match, as their energy and pressing added a new dimension to the team’s attack.
Moments after coming on, Oladunjoiye made an instant impact. Abdulganniyu broke into the Lobi Stars’ box and provided a well-timed assist for Oladunjoiye, who calmly slotted home the decisive goal.
The victory sends Sporting Lagos to their first-ever Gold Cup final, where they will face the winner of the semi-final between Crown FC and FC Ebedei in Saturday’s grand finale.
