Sporting Lagos have emerged champions of the 2026 ValueJet Cup after edging Remo Stars 2-1 in a keenly contested final in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The Noisy Lagosians produced a determined display to claim the trophy, with Aliyu Baba and Sodiq Ayoade finding the net for the Lagos-based outfit, while Taiwo Oyetunde scored Remo Stars’ only goal.
The victory capped Sporting Lagos’ impressive run in the pre-season competition, which featured some of Nigeria’s leading clubs and provided valuable preparation ahead of the 2026/27 football season.
The tournament, held from August 9 to 16 at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, offered participating teams the opportunity to assess new signings, experiment with tactical formations and improve match fitness ahead of the new campaign.
Sporting Lagos’ triumph will serve as a major confidence booster as the club intensifies preparations for the forthcoming Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
For hosts Remo Stars, the defeat means they finished as runners-up after an otherwise competitive outing in the tournament.
Beyond the football action, the 2026 ValueJet Cup was dedicated to the memory of Otunba Tade Azeez, a respected football administrator and former chairman of the competition, whose contributions to Nigerian football and refereeing were widely acknowledged.
With the curtain now drawn on the tournament, attention shifts to the 2026/27 NPFL season, with Sporting Lagos carrying the added confidence of entering the campaign as ValueJet Cup champions.
