As part of their preparations for the 2025/26 football season, Ikorodu City FC will compete in the maiden edition of the Eko International Cup 2025. The highly anticipated pre-season tournament will take place at the historic Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium), Lagos, from Sunday, July 13 to Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Ikorodu City will be joined by five other top clubs: Enyimba FC, Rivers United, Shooting Stars SC (3SC) of Ibadan, Remo Stars, and FC Kallon of Sierra Leone. The tournament draw, conducted in Lagos on Friday, placed Ikorodu City, Rivers United, and Shooting Stars in Group A.
The opening match of the tournament will feature a thrilling Southwest derby between Ikorodu City and Shooting Stars on Sunday. The technical crew of Ikorodu City, also known as the Oga Boys, plans to use the competition to assess newly signed players and fine-tune the squad in preparation for the upcoming league season. Their goal is to build a more competitive and formidable team.
Shooting Stars, popularly known as the Oluyole Warriors, have also confirmed their participation and readiness for the tournament. According to the club’s management, the Eko International Cup will serve as a platform to test new signings, assess potential recruits, and keep existing players in top form ahead of the new season.
"We will face Ikorodu City in the opening match on Sunday and take on Rivers United on Wednesday, July 16, 2025," the club stated. "This tournament offers us the chance to strengthen our squad, evaluate player performance, and solidify our game strategy before the season begins."
With fierce regional rivalries and high-caliber clubs involved, the Eko International Cup 2025 promises exciting football action and valuable preparation for all participating teams.
