South Africa Held by Jamaica in Final Mexico Friendly Ahead of El Tri Test

South Africa wrapped up their final warm-up match before facing Mexico with a 1-1 draw against Jamaica at Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca on Saturday. The result extended Bafana Bafana's winless streak to five matches, raising concerns about the team's form and defensive stability ahead of a crucial encounter with the World Cup co-hosts.

Despite producing some encouraging attacking moments, South Africa once again struggled to convince defensively. The draw highlighted several issues that coach Hugo Broos will be eager to address before his side takes on Mexico at the iconic Estadio Azteca on 11 June 2026.

Lyle Foster gave South Africa the advantage shortly after the break, calmly finishing from inside the penalty area. The striker's goal was one of the positives for Bafana Bafana and could provide him with added confidence heading into the Mexico fixture.

Jamaica responded quickly through Dwayne Atkinson, who converted from close range following a set-piece situation. His equaliser ensured the visitors remained competitive and maintained their recent unbeaten run in friendly matches.

The remainder of the second half was played at a high tempo, with both teams creating opportunities in an open contest. However, neither side managed to find a decisive goal despite several promising attacking moves.

After the match, Broos acknowledged his disappointment with aspects of South Africa's display, stressing that improvements are required during the team's remaining preparations in Pachuca. While the friendly provided valuable match practice, it also underlined the work still needed as Bafana Bafana continue their build-up to the challenge against Mexico.

For Jamaica, the result represented another positive outing away from home against quality opposition. The Reggae Boyz will return home encouraged by their performance as they begin preparations for their next international assignments.
