Son Heung-min’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is increasingly linked to the club’s upcoming pre-season tour of Asia, particularly in his native South Korea, where he remains a national icon. With only 12 months left on his contract, speculation around a possible move to Saudi Arabia has intensified.

 

Although Saudi clubs are reportedly interested in capitalising on the uncertainty, any potential exit is unlikely to occur before the tour concludes due to the commercial and public relations value tied to Son’s presence.

 

Tottenham have scheduled two high-profile friendlies—against Arsenal in Hong Kong on July 31 and Newcastle in Seoul on August 3. Son’s participation is considered essential by organisers, given his status as a footballing hero in South Korea.

 

The forward’s absence could create complications with both fans and sponsors, as many of the tour’s marketing efforts are built around his image. As such, well-placed sources suggest Spurs are reluctant to negotiate any transfer involving Son before the tour is completed.

 

In addition to his importance on the pitch, Son plays a critical commercial role for Spurs, especially in global markets. His involvement in various promotional activities during the tour has already been agreed upon, and the club is committed to fulfilling these obligations.

 

While Tottenham haven’t received any formal offers for their captain, it is believed that only a significantly overvalued bid would prompt the club to consider selling him ahead of the tour.

 

Son has become one of Tottenham’s most influential players since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, with 173 goals in 454 appearances. His status was further cemented last month when he captained Spurs to their first European trophy in over 40 years by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.

 

With new head coach Thomas Frank now at the helm and seeking attacking reinforcements, including interest in Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Son’s future may hinge on how he fits into the Dane’s plans post-tour—suggesting that the transfer saga could stretch into the closing days of the window.
