Simon Set for Super Eagles Century as NFF Plans Special Honour

Posted : 24 September 2026

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has concluded plans to honour Super Eagles forward Moses Simon as he approaches a landmark 100th senior international appearance for Nigeria.

Simon, who made his Super Eagles debut on March 25, 2015, has earned 99 caps and scored 12 goals for the three-time African champions.

The Nantes forward could reach the milestone if selected for Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Madagascar.

His international career has spanned more than nine years, during which he has featured in 64 competitive matches and 35 international friendlies.

Simon has also accumulated 23 appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations finals and played in 22 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

Among the memorable moments of his early Super Eagles career was his contribution to Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Swaziland, now Eswatini.

After Nigeria were held to a goalless draw in Mbabane, the return leg in Port Harcourt remained goalless deep into the match before Simon produced a moment of individual brilliance.

The forward struck directly from a 22-yard free-kick to break the deadlock and set Nigeria on course for a 2-0 victory that kept the qualification campaign alive.

Across his 99 appearances, Nigeria have recorded 49 victories, 30 draws and 20 defeats in matches in which Simon has featured.

The NFF's Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised Simon's contribution to the national team, describing him as both a committed player and an outstanding individual.

“I can testify that Moses Simon is an incredible player and a wonderful human being, having related with him at close quarters for several years,” Ikpeme said on Thursday.

“He is a patriot to the core, and forever passionate and dedicated to the Nigeria cause.

“The NFF celebrates him on this special occasion and wish him many more caps with the Super Eagles.”

Should he feature against Madagascar, Simon will join the select group of Nigerian players to have reached the 100-cap landmark, adding another significant chapter to his international career.
