EFL League Two side Shrewsbury Town have officially confirmed the departure of three young players of Nigerian descent following the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season. The club released its retained and released list this week, detailing the squad changes ahead of the summer transfer window. Trey Ogunsuyi, Temple Ojinnaka, and Bradley Ihionvien have all returned to their respective parent clubs after completing their loan stints with the Shrews.
Forward Trey Ogunsuyi returns to Sunderland after joining Shrewsbury in the January transfer window. The Belgium U19 international had previously spent the first half of the campaign in Scotland with Falkirk before moving to the Croud Meadow. His most notable contribution during his time with the Shrews was a match-winning brace in a 3-2 victory against Chesterfield. Despite his potential, his opportunities were limited as the club battled for survival in the bottom half of the table.
Bradley Ihionvien also heads back to Peterborough United after a season-long loan agreement. The 22-year-old striker, a product of the Colchester United academy, made 13 appearances for the club during the campaign. He managed to find the back of the net three times before his spell ended. Ihionvien will now look to break into the first-team setup at Peterborough, where he has already made 20 senior appearances.
Versatile defender Temple Ojinnaka concludes his temporary stay and returns to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ojinnaka, who can operate as a center-back, fullback, or midfielder, arrived in the winter market to provide defensive depth. Before his move to League Two, he had earned spots on the bench for Wolves in high-profile Premier League matches against Manchester United and Everton. He featured in four league matches during his short time with Shrewsbury.
Shrewsbury Town ended a difficult season in 19th place, narrowly avoiding a second consecutive relegation battle. The club experienced a change in leadership during the season, with Gavin Cowan replacing Michael Appleton in January to secure their EFL status. With several loan players returning and a group of senior players being released, the management team is now expected to overhaul the squad for a more competitive 2026/2027 campaign.
