2026/2027 Euromatch NPFL Matchday 8: Under-Pressure Shooting Stars Seek Redemption Against Kun Khalifat in Owerri

Posted : 10 October 2026

Shooting Stars SC will head to Owerri on Sunday determined to overcome their recent struggles when they face Kun Khalifat FC in a Matchday 8 fixture of the 2026/2027 Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Oluyole Warriors are under pressure to rediscover their scoring touch after consecutive goalless draws at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan against Nasarawa United on October 4 and Kano Pillars on Wednesday.

Those results have heightened frustration among supporters, with sections of the fan base questioning the team’s performances and calling for the dismissal of head coach Salisu Yusuf.

However, Shooting Stars defender Adelowo Gbolagade has urged fans to remain supportive, insisting that the players are determined to correct their mistakes and revive the team’s campaign.

In a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, the centre-back acknowledged the supporters’ disappointment while assuring them that the squad remained committed to turning its fortunes around.

“We know this is a difficult moment, and we understand your anger, disappointment and frustration. We feel it too,” Gbolagade said.

“But we want you to know that we are not giving up. We are hurting, but we are also determined to fight harder and make things right.”

The defender’s message comes ahead of a potentially significant encounter against Kun Khalifat, where Shooting Stars will have an opportunity to translate their determination into an improved performance.

For the Ibadan-based side, the challenge goes beyond securing three points. They must demonstrate greater attacking purpose, improve their finishing and show the composure required to convert scoring opportunities.

Gbolagade also emphasised the importance of continued support from the club’s loyal fans, urging them not to lose faith during this difficult period.

“Your support means everything to us, especially during the tough moments. Please keep believing in us and standing with the team. We promise to learn from our mistakes, work harder, and give everything we have on the pitch.

“This is not the end of our story. We will get it right,” he added.

Club chairman Kehinde Lekan Salami has similarly appealed for patience with Yusuf, urging supporters not to allow disappointing results to overshadow the team’s progress.

Nevertheless, the responsibility now rests on the players to respond on the pitch, with Sunday’s encounter offering an opportunity to ease the growing pressure surrounding the club.

Kun Khalifat, meanwhile, will provide another test for Shooting Stars as they seek to regain confidence and end their recent scoring drought.

With supporters demanding a stronger response, the Oluyole Warriors must address their attacking difficulties and demonstrate the resilience needed to leave Owerri with a positive result.
