Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan have been removed from the NPFL Super 6 tournament after the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board ruled that the club’s submitted squad did not comply with competition regulations.
The Oluyole Warriors were reportedly found to have included academy players alongside members of their first-team squad in the list submitted for the tournament.
Following a review of the submission, the NPFL board sanctioned the Ibadan-based club with disqualification, effectively ending their participation in the competition before it began.
The decision represents a major setback for Shooting Stars, who had been preparing to test themselves against some of the country’s leading clubs in the pre-season tournament.
The development is also likely to attract further attention as stakeholders await more details on the specific provisions of the NPFL regulations which the club was deemed to have breached.
Shooting Stars will now have to come to terms with their exclusion as the other participating clubs continue preparations for the NPFL Super 6.
