Shooting Stars and Kano Pillars played out a goalless draw in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 3 fixture at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, on Wednesday. The result extended Shooting Stars’ winless run to four matches, while Kano Pillars maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 campaign.
The Oluyole Warriors entered the game under pressure after recording two defeats and a draw in their previous three league matches. Kano Pillars were also searching for a win after three consecutive draws, but the visitors remained difficult to beat as they secured another valuable point on the road.
Clear chances were limited throughout the encounter. The best opportunity came in the ninth minute when Kano Pillars forward Friday Ubong headed towards goal, only for the effort to be cleared off the line. Shooting Stars controlled 65 per cent of possession and produced more attacking pressure, but they could not turn their dominance into a decisive goal.
The result was particularly significant for Kano Pillars, who avoided defeat at the Lekan Salami Stadium for the first time since June 2017. The previous occasion also ended 0-0, while Pillars had lost their last four visits to Ibadan before Wednesday’s encounter.
Kano Pillars have now stretched their unbeaten run to seven league matches. The Sai Masu Gida have recorded two wins and five draws during that sequence, including four consecutive draws in their latest fixtures.
The stalemate, however, increased the pressure on Shooting Stars technical adviser Salisu Yusuf. A section of supporters gathered outside the stadium after the match and called for his removal, while Sporting Director Adepoju Tobi Samuel was also verbally confronted by some fans as he left the venue.
Shooting Stars moved to eight points from seven matches and sit 14th on the NPFL table according to multiple post-match reports. Kano Pillars climbed to sixth with 11 points from seven games, keeping them firmly among the early contenders near the top of the standings.
The result leaves Shooting Stars needing a quick response as they look to end their difficult run. Kano Pillars, meanwhile, will take confidence from extending their unbeaten record before their next league assignment away to Plateau United.
